NEW INDIAN RESTAURANT
BLACK CUMIN, BRISTOL

Black Cumin - the newest Indian restaurant in Bristol - opened its doors in November 2023.
Opened by head chef Arvind Pawar, the restaurant describes itself as a fine dining establishment, offering an innovative blend of traditional Indian flavours and contemporary culinary techniques.
Dishes on the menu have been designed to take diners on a journey "across the majestic sub-continent", from the royal kitchens of the India's North, to the succulent dishes famous from Southern shores.
The menu features a large number of small plates (e.g. Peshawari Wild Salmon / Achari Prawns), along with some unique chef's specials (e.g. Black Cumin Duck / Pork Balchao - homemade Goan spices with pork cooked with chilli vinegar and black pepper), and a separate seafood selection (e.g. Goan Fish Curry).
There are also extensive vegetarian options (e.g. Achari Bagara Bengan - baby aubergine cooked in spicy pickle and spices barbecued in tandoor / Pindi Channa - spicy chickpeas sauteed in traditional Punjabi spices) along with a large number of more traditional curry house choices.
The drinks menu is equally broad, going beyond the typical draught beer offerings, featuring more than a dozen cocktails and mocktails (e.g. Smoked Old Fashion / Talli Rickshaw - made with spiced rum, mango puree, and mint leaves), along with a solid whisky selection that even has a Hibiki 12 year.
Head chef Arvind has a a standout background and reputation, with over 10 years of experience working at some of Delhi’s most revered hotels including the Taj Hotels, and has since spent the last decade working as Michelin Guide Head Chef in Bristol.
