NEW INDIAN RESTAURANT
AMOR, ROCHDALE
Amor - the newest Indian restaurant in Rochdale - opened its doors in the Bamford area in December 2023.
Amor describes itself as serving Subcontinental dishes with a fusion of home-style warmth and modern flair, offering a meeting of modern Indian cuisine and the artistry of expertly crafted cocktails. Head Chef Mohammed Rahman also brings huge experience having spent 5 years leading the kitchen at the popular nearby restaurant The Pavilion.
Though there are the traditional curry and tandoori options on offer (think Jalfrezis and Lamb Tikkas etc), there are also some particularly eye-catching dishes. For example we haven't seen the Kholija Puree starter before, made with tenderised beef liver, medium spices and caramelised onions on a fried puri bread.
The House Specials menu continues this theme of including unique dishes too, with a Chocolate Masala Curry which showcases the bittersweetness of chocolate, and the Achari Shatkora Bhuna, built around a fruit pickle and shatkora - a citrus fruit native to Bangladesh.
The drinks menu is also extensive, with a great wines and spirits selection, Cobra on draught (classic), and, rarely for a curry house, a choice of champagnes with some fairly reasonable options to boot - and that's before getting to the cocktail menu. For those looking to enjoy the bar, Amor is only a 10 minute cab ride (or designated driver trip) from the centre of Rochdale.
The restaurant itself is a real feature of Amor, with fully modern furnishings and bar, with presentation being a clear point of pride. No wonder though, the owners of the family-run restaurant have been successful in the business for more than three decades, and clearly know how they like things to be.
