NEW INDIAN RESTAURANT
GURU, BELFAST
Guru Belfast – the latest addition to Belfast’s culinary scene – opened in October 2024 in the heart of Wellington Place. Brought to the city by Gourav Barot and Davinder Malik, the restaurateurs behind the highly successful Guru Newry, this new restaurant is aiming to bring an authentic taste of India to Northern Ireland.
At the helm in the kitchen is Chef Dhingra, a culinary veteran who spent a decade refining his skills with the esteemed Oberoi Hotel group across India and Egypt. This extensive experience informs a carefully curated menu that blends traditional Indian flavours with modern techniques, a combination Chef Dhingra describes as “authentically Indian, with a modern twist.”
The menu at Guru offers both well-loved classics and unique regional dishes rarely seen in Northern Ireland. For starters, options include the Kala Chana Samosa Chaat, featuring black chickpea masala topped with cooling yoghurt and tangy tamarind and mint chutney, or the crispy Kolkata Chilli Chicken, which is tossed with bell peppers and onions in a spicy, aromatic sauce.
For mains, there is a significant number of options, including the Awadhi Nalli Gosht, a lamb shank slowly simmered with marrow bones in a richly spiced, aromatic gravy, and the Kerala Meen Moilee, a Southern Indian-style fish curry in a rich, silky coconut sauce with hints of ginger, curry leaves, and turmeric.
In addition to a food menu, Guru also boasts an extensive wine list and a signature cocktail menu. Speaking about the new Belfast location, founder and director Gourav Barot shared his enthusiasm: “We are absolutely thrilled to finally open our doors in Belfast. It’s an exciting time for the city, and we’re proud to be joining such a prestigious dining community” adding that the success of Guru in Newry made expanding into Belfast “a natural next step”.
Currently open for dinner, Guru Belfast also has plans to introduce new offerings in the coming weeks, including Indian-style tapas for lunch and authentic Indian breakfasts, a unique twist that the owners feel will further distinguish Guru in Belfast’s restaurant landscape.
