Madurai Indian restaurant in Glasgow

Madurai - the newest Indian restaurant in Glasgow - opened its doors in the iconic Hatrack Building in May 2024.

The cuisine at Madurai showcases the heritage of South Indian cooking, offering dishes inspired by the namesake Madurai region from the heart of the ancient Chola Empire. Hatrack

The influence of dishes found across Southern India are widely reflected across the menu, featuring recipes like Inji Lamb (tender lamb infused with paprika, ginger, and black pepper), a variety of seafood dishes on such as the Fish Croquettes to start and the Chutta Monkfish from the grill, and even a selection of Dosa - the crispy South Indian crepes - all served with
sambar, coconut chutney, and a tomato lentil chutney.

Owner Rakesh Kandari and his team of chefs have previously catered for celebrities such as Billy Connolly and Liam Gallagher. Based on St. Vincent Street, just a 5 minute stroll from Glasgow Central station, Madurai is in a perfect spot for both locals a visitors to the city, and Rakesh is now buzzing to bring his dishes to Glasgow.

 

Speaking to Glasgow World, he said “South Indian cuisine is richer, and you can taste more flavours. It is something very different and I wanted to introduce some of our original dishes to Glasgow including our tender baby eggplants in a coconut and coriander sauce.
