Malai Indian and Gurkha Kitchen - the newest Indian restaurant in Sutton Coldfield just north of Birmingham - opened its doors in March 2024.

The first thing that stands out when looking at the menu is the huge selection of dishes available, with 31 starters and more than 40 main courses on offer! Along with the expected selection of traditional favourites (think Bhuna / Madras / Saag / Biryani etc.), there are various Nepali options too - as suggested by the restaurant name.

For example in the starters, there are a wide choice of Momo (a traditional steamed filled dumpling), along with a Himalaya Lamb Tikka which is marinated overnight in traditional Nepalese spices.

The restaurant’s signature dishes section also offers Nepali dishes as mains, such as a Himalaya Chilli Garlic Chicken cooked in Himalayan Spices, and a Gurkha Goat Curry on the bone.

A couple of other things worth noting too are that this restaurant will be a great spot for non-meat eaters, as around half of the dishes on offer are vegetarian options. The owners are also running a special offer to coincide with the launch, offering a 15% discount on the food bill for all diners, until 30 April 2024.
