Pallavas - the newest Indian restaurant in Southend - opened its doors to diners in July 2024.

Located just a short walk away from the iconic Southend Pier, Pallavas has positioned itself as a taste of ancient South India, offering an authentic culinary journey through its diverse and flavorful regions - from the “tangy delicacies of Andhra Pradesh to the coconut-rich dishes of Kerala, and from the aromatic, steamed delights of Tamil Nadu to the heart, seasoned preparations of Karnataka and rich spices of Hyderabad”.

Named after the ancient Pallava dynasty, the restaurant’s menu really reflects this philosophy, with a selection of Dosa and Uthappam (a thicker version of Dosa complete with toppings) on offer.

The extensive menu features a number of unique dishes with starters such as the Mutton Kola Urundai (deep fried minced mutton balls with a spiced masala) and the HyderabadApollo Fish (a fish fillet fried and tossed in garlic masala with fresh curry leaves). Other eye-catching dishes for main courses include the Kori Ghassi (Mangalorean chicken curry made with roasted indian spices and coconut milk), and the aromatic Malabari Prawn Curry cooked in tamarind, coconut and jaggery.

Speaking about the opening with Echo News, owner Sai Allam said “I used to have a restaurant at East Ham more than 10 years ago, but that closed and I started working in recruitment. Now, I am once again opening my own restaurant as this has always been my dream.

“I think we offer something different compared to others in the area. We also offer all-day authentic food and breakfast which makes us different.

I have a really good feeling about this place and I think we will do really well.

I am looking forward to bringing authentic South Indian food to the people of Southend.
