NEW INDIAN RESTAURANT
SABA MAISON DE LUXE, SUNDERLAND
Saba Maison De Luxe - the newest Indian restaurant in Sunderland - opened its doors in November 2023.
Opened by restauranteur Saba Ahmed, the restaurant describes itself as uniquely offering both fine and casual dining, serving real food of the Indian culture.
The menu has been designed by the team of chefs to incorporate both traditional and classical favourites with original and new dishes, to deliver eastern flavours with a western twist.
On the menu itself, there are a huge number of starters with 30 on offer, including luxury options such as Maison Shell Mussels (mussels cooked with lentils in a tangy spicy sauce) and 'Bombay Calamari', along with more traditional dishes.
For main courses, there is another really large selection of specials, split across seafood (e.g. Ceylon Sea Bass: fresh sea bass fillets cooked with a fresh coconut cream sauce, served with curry leaves and mustard seeds), poultry (e.g. Murg Haryana: chicken tempered with cumin, coriander and chillies, cooked with peppers and tomatoes), and lamb (e.g. Nush Leteh Lamb Shank: slow-cooked lamb shank marinated for 24 hours and cooked in a traditional Punjabi style), as well as all of the traditional curry house options that you would expect to see.
The restaurant also features a lounge bar with a comprehensive drinks menu which includes everything from draft beers to champagne cocktails and luxury teapot cocktails.
Saba Maison De Luxe is one of the largest restaurants in Sunderland with 150 covers, and is a long-planned project of restaurateur Saba Ahmed. The restaurant has opened in Sunderland's city centre on the site of what was previously Victor's. After undergoing a major renovation, the dining space has been completely transformed, complete with swinging chairs and a ceiling dripping with flowers.
